The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani strongly denouncing the gang rape of a woman in New Delhi, questioned the double standards of the Indian people, who had taken to streets against the notorious incident but maintained silence over numerous such incidents in Kashmir over the past two decades, Kashmir Media Service reported.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in New Delhi referring to the incidents of Kunan-Poshpora, Chanapora and Shopian said that the “accused in these cases were identified but were let off and no one was penalised or punished for the crime.”
“In the Shopian double rape and murder case, not only were the two women—Asiya and Neelofar— raped but were also murdered. Yet no one in India raised voice against this brutal crime. In fact, India’s former home minister LK Advani went to the extent of declaring that armed forces personnel involved in rapes could be not punished for such an action (as it) would affect their so-called morale,” Gilani said.
“The horrific crime that has been committed against our daughter in New Delhi has broken our hearts, and understandably so, but if the Indian people have even an iota of conscience left in them, they should also raise their voice against the atrocities committed against Kashmiri women and press their government to bring the culprits to book,” he added.
