Summary of Events

The rebels shot down a fighter jet in the suburb of Hama and two more helicopter gunships, one in the Raqa suburb of Tabqa and another in the Idlib suburb of Ma’arrat al-Numan.

Activists posted a video on Youtube showing the munitions boxes they captured after ambushing a reinforcement convoy on the Damascus-Deir Azzour route. They also posted another video that purportedly shows munitions boxes labeled inPersian language after taking over a military checkpoint in the Daraa suburb of Bosr al-Harir yesterday.

In Raqa, the rebels seized control of an agriculture research center and a military petrol station in the southern part of Raqa city. They also stormed a police station in the same city and captured all arms and ammunition. Moreover, the rebels killed six security forces after storming a military checkpoint in the neighborhood of Mashlab, north east of Raqa city.
The rebels stormed the town of the Magheer in the suburb of Hama and attacked several security checkpoints in the neighborhoods of Hader, Janbou Thakta and Arbaeen in Hama city, leaving many regime soldiers dead and wounded.

Al-Habeeb al-Mustafa Brigades claimed responsibility for a car bomb explosion that hit a security checkpoint in the Adaway Street in the heart of Damascus. The explosion killed and injured many regime soldiers according to a statement they issued today. The rebels also destroyed a military tank and a military checkpoint stationed on the fifth bridge in the road to Damascus International airport.

More than 3978 soldiers have defected on last month of January according to the Syrian Revolution General Commission.

Regime forces continued their attacks on residential areas within the rebels-held towns in Syria, shelling as many as 309 locations across the country, 21 of which were pounded with warplanes using cluster, phosphorous, thermboaric and explosive bombs. A Scud-type missile was launched towards the north of the country from the Naseriya base in the Damascus suburb of Qalamon last night.

Regime forces bombed the Euphrates Dam in the Raqa suburb of Tabqa. The incident stirred panic among civilians who said that surrounding villages of the dam could be wiped out in case if it is damaged.

Today’s death toll reached more than 171. Regime forces and loyalist militiamen killed at least 131 people, including 21 children, 12 women and 20 rebel fighters, whereas the rebels killed more than 40 soldiers and militiamen.

At least 29 people, including 11 women and seven children, were killed and dozens more were wounded when regime fighter jet carried out an airstrike on the neighborhood of Ansari in Aleppo city.

In Damascus, at least 41 people were killed, 24 of whom died during a heavy fighting that broke out in the provincial towns of Harasta, Irbin, Daraya and Adra. Meanwhile, two children and one man were killed due to the indiscriminate shelling in the town of Irbin while three others died due to the violent shelling in the Palestinian Yarmouk refugee camp.

Five children out of 12 people were killed in Homs while 40 others were wounded as regime warplanes and military tanks bombarded the towns of Zafaraniya and Talbisa as well as the village of Jandar.

Regime airstrike leveled three residential building to the ground and left dozens of people dead and wounded in the Idlib suburb of Binnish. The indiscriminate rocket shelling also left at least four people dead and many others wounded in the Idlib suburb of Barra.

Dozens of people were also killed and injured due to the indiscriminate shelling and heavy fighting that took place in Daraa, Deir Azzour, Raqa, Idlib and Hama.
