Summary of Events

A military convoy consisting of more than 24 military tanks and 3000 troops ran over the town of Khanaser in the eastern suburb of Aleppo in the north of the country, killing at least 21 people including women and children. They kidnapped dozens of people and used them as human shields as they carried out sweeps in the town and headed toward the town of Sfeera in order to break the siege imposed by the rebels on the Military Factories base.

Regime forces continued their attacks on residential areas within the rebels-held towns in Syria, shelling as many as 281locations across the country, 17 of which were pounded with warplanes using cluster, phosphorous, thermboaric and explosive bombs.

Today’s death toll reached 145. Regime forces and loyalist militiamen killed at least 123 people, including 14 children, 7 women and 36 rebel fighters, whereas the rebels killed more than 27 soldiers and militiamen.

In Damascus and its suburbs, at least 48 people, including five children and four women, were killed by regime forces today, the majority of whom died due to the indiscriminate shelling in the neighborhoods of Jobar and Qabun as well as in the provincial towns of Sbeneh, Moadamiyat al-Sham and Douma. Meanwhile, dozens more people were killed and injured due to the indiscriminate shelling and violent clashes that took place throughout Daraa, Homs, Idlib, Raqa, Deir Azzour, Hama and Latakia.

Activists said that a pilot defected with his fighter jet and attacked regime military posts in the Hama suburbs of Safsafiya and Salhab, leaving many regime soldiers dead and wounded.

Heavy fighting erupted in the southern neighborhood of Qadam where the rebels repelled the regime’s attempt to retake the railway and the police stations which fell to them few days ago. Clashes also took place in the neighborhoods of Yarmoukrefugee camp, Tadamon and Qabun.

In Aleppo city, the rebels attacked a checkpoint near the Hamadaniya Stadium and launched a major offensive on the Mohallab Barrack in the neighborhood of Sabeel, killing and injuring many regime soldiers. Heavy fighting also broke out in the neighborhoods of Saif Adola, Salaheddin, Ithaa, Old City, Jamiyat al-Zahraa and in the streets of Nile and Tishrin.

The rebels renewed their attack on the central prison in Raqa city and killed a number of security forces. Some 13 security personnel defected to their side during the attack.

The rebels ran over a military checkpoint in the neighborhood of Abasiya in central Daraa city and attacked several military posts in the Daraa suburbs of Ma’arbeh, Harrah and Tal Shihab and kept thwarting the regime repeated attacks on town of Bosr al-Harir.

Heavy fighting was also reported in Deir AzzourHama and its suburbs, Idlib, Homs and Qunaitra.

The US dollar hit unprecedented heights against the Syrian pound with the Central Bank of Syria (CBS) today setting its selling price against the SYP at 80.50 and the purchase price at SYP 80.02. The US dollar in the black market was steady at 94 SYP.
